Working with a health or life coach is just like working with a personal trainer, sports coach or yoga teacher. Sometimes we need guidance from coaches or mentors in our lives, and there are many different kinds.
Health coaches can help you make healthier choices, life coaches can guide you through challenges in your life that just need a little extra support. There are also business coaches, blog coaches, wealth coaches and spiritual practice coaches. My amazing coach, Tara Bliss, is a life coach who specialises in spiritual practice, but that hasn’t always been the case.
I started my journey as a health coach because I am so passionate about health and helping people make healthier choices, guide people to provide healthy meals for their family, and prepare healthier meals for themselves and others. However, since I finished my training, I have noticed my coaching practice and interests have expanded, and now I would say I am more of a health & life coach than just a health coach. I adore helping people overcome the barriers to creating the life they love, navigating through quarter-life crisis, and helping women develop their support networks. Love it!
People outside a situation bring clarity that those involved may not have. Coaches listen without judgement, and can see the perspective that you can’t—yes, you’re amazing even if you can’t see it right now! Sometimes we just need someone who can stop us self-sabotaging, and call us out on our shit so we can get from where we are to where we want to be.
My coach has helped me shed light on particular things in my life and journey, find clarity and inspiration for my work, develop a spiritual practice including meditation and journaling, and given me an opportunity to go deep with someone who is distant enough for me to be truly honest and open.
It’s funny that we invest in things like gym memberships and personal trainers, nutritionists, beauty therapists, personal shoppers and even house cleaners, yet investing in a coach is something that seems indulgent to so many people. After resisting for quite some time, I took the leap when my dream coach was available and found the room in my budget. It has been absolutely worthwhile, and my only regret is not doing it sooner.
